Tough Mudder, Wounded Warriors and Scottish Rite Brethren
Five Scottish Rite Brethren competed in the Tahoe Tough Mudder event on September 28, 2013.
One man tells his tale of competing...
A friend ask me recently to go for a 10 – 12 mile run, in my younger days that wouldn’t have been a problem, but then he says, “Oh by the way, it really is a 10-12 mile Obstacle Course with about 1,000 of your closest friends, and we are going to raise money for the Wounded Warrior Project. Still in for this run?” While I had to turn him down, (my body couldn’t begin to handle this type of abuse at this point in my life) I was quite intrigued.
It seems these obstacle course events have been going on for the last 3 years, held all over the world and run by a group called Tough Mudder. According to its website Tough Mudder is an extreme endurance event that pits participants against a 10-12 mile long obstacle course designed by former British Special Forces operators to test strength of mind as well as body. Since its first race in 2010, more than 700,000 participants have attempted the race worldwide…with approximately 78% completing each obstacle. Each participant faces between 20 and 25 obstacles that may include everything from mud, fire, ice, and even 10,000 volts of electricity!
