Public School Administration Scholarship

Description

Each year, the Supreme Council, 33°, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Southern Jurisdiction, USA (“Supreme Council”) makes available two scholarships for individuals who have completed master’s degrees in some phase of education to assist the individuals in attaining a doctoral degree in public school administration.

Each scholarship is in the amount of $15,000 and is to be paid over a period of two years, i.e., $7,500 will be paid each year for two years, provided satisfactory academic work is maintained.

The scholarship is meant to help professional educators who have demonstrated competence in their fields, particularly in the field of administration and who are unable to continue with graduate studies because of financial burdens.

Eligibility Requirements

U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Resident Status

The scholarship is available to United States citizens or U.S. permanent residents only for study at accredited schools of higher learning authorized to grant doctoral degrees related to public school administration and located in the United States (an “Accredited Institution”).

Verified Affiliation with the Scottish Rite, SJ, USA

Each applicant must complete the Verification of Scottish Rite Eligibility Form (part of the application form) and receive eligibility confirmation before the application will be reviewed.

Eligibility will be confirmed by the Office of Director of Education if the applicant:

1. Is a Member in good standing of the A. & A. Scottish Rite, Southern Jurisdiction, USA, with its headquarters located at 1733 16th St. NW, Washington, DC 20009;

OR

2. Has one of the following relationships to a current or deceased member in good standing of the A. & A. Scottish Rite, Southern Jurisdiction, USA, with its headquarters located at 1733 16th St. NW, Washington, DC 20009:

  • Spouse,
  • Sibling*,
  • Child*,
  • Grandchild*;

* by marriage, birth, or operation of law (e.g., adoption)

Acceptance at Accredited Institution

While one may apply for the scholarship in advance, if a scholarship is awarded—before any payments are made—applicants MUST be accepted for enrollment at an Accredited Institution.

Education & Work Prerequisites

  • Must have attained bachelor’s and master’s degrees with good scholastic records.
  • Must have sterling character and personal integrity as indicated by letters of recommendation.
  • Must have demonstrated effectiveness in public school work.
  • Must have been an active leader in community affairs.
  • Must have planned work for a doctoral degree in a university, which is accredited and has a reputation for outstanding graduate work in the field of public school administration.

Application & Deadline

Applications must be submitted online each year to the Director of Education, the Supreme Council, 33°, Southern Jurisdiction, USA. Only applications submitted online will be considered.

The application period is January 17–April 3, 2019.

Please scan your complete transcripts of college, university, and graduate records, and at least three (3), but not more than four (4) letters of recommendation, and include them with this application. The applicant’s letters of recommendation should indicate integrity of character, success as a public school system educator, and active participation in their communities.

All scans must be submitted in PDF format. Please make sure that each of your attachments are 12 MB, or less, in size.

Use of Cookies

Selection Process

Selections will be made each year during the month of April.

In the selection process, priority will be given to those individuals who demonstrate they are committed to public school education and to those who have had some experience in a responsible administrative position.

Final selections and appointments will be at the sole discretion and determination of the Sovereign Grand Commander of the Supreme Council.

Notification and Consent to Publication

All applicants will be informed of their selection status via mail by September 1, 2019.

If you are selected to receive a scholarship sponsored by the Supreme Council, by submitting this application, you consent to the publishing on our web site and in our publications, your name, photograph, city and state where you reside, name of the scholarship of which you are a recipient, and the university/college where you plan to undertake your studies.
